Xavier Cooks undergoes successful knee surgery

Versatile forward Xavier Cooks has reportedly undergone successful surgery on his left knee that he injured with the Australian national team during their training camp in Perth.

Cooks, who had been named to the Boomers team of twelve for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China, was forced out of contention after suffering a meniscus tear during training camp on 13 August ahead of the Boomers exhibition games against Canada. He was replaced in the team by former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Mitch Creek.

According to reports via his French team Strasbourg, Cooks underwent successful surgery, and is now expected to be sidelined for up to 3 months.

The injury was a devastating blow to the 23-year-old, after replacing Thon Maker in the Boomers squad of 18, before earning his place on the World Cup squad.

His new club Strasbourg, the former club of fellow Australians David Andersen and Nathan Sobey, has begun searching for a replacement to cover for their star Australian forward's elongated absence to commence the 2019/20 season.

One of his fellow imports on the team is a name well known to Australian NBL fans, with former Brisbane Bullets and Cairns Taipans star Travis Trice set to suit up for Strasbourg this season also after he helped Team USA qualify for the World Cup.
