EuroView: Tess Madgen leads from the front

Tess Madgen had a great showing in Poland, while Steph Talbot also enjoyed a big performance of her own as we wrap up the Aussie women in Europe from the past week.

Australian Madgen led from the front as her side AZS UMCS of Lublin took on Sleza Wroclaw, unfortunately going down 80-71. Despite the loss, Madgen dominated and top scored with 17 points for the match. With two players sitting out, Lublin were overcome by a healthier side that took them on from the inside. Things turned around for Lublin however, as they then faced MKK Siedlce to win 49-66. Again, Madgen provided a consistently solid performance with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

AZS AJP of Gorzow weren’t able to overcome CCC Polkowice, despite a top-scoring effort from Steph Talbot who provided 17 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Ending the four-game winning streak of 3rd ranked Gorzow, Polkowice held them to just a 24.6% shooting average. Nicole Seekamp did what she could for Gorzow with 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Uniqa Sopron weren’t able to overcome the stacked up UMMC, losing 56-82. Cayla George was solid with 6 points and 6 rebounds. George was one of Sopron’s standouts in their 79-53 Euroleague win over Atomeromu with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

Abby Bishop did not play as her side lost to Villeneuve 76-68. Bishop suffered a nasty knock to the head in their match last week, and is likely to be out of action in the near future.

Hatay were successful in their Turkish league match over Girne University, totalling a 79-61 win. Playing out the entire 40 minutes from the point guard position was Nat Hurst, who finished up with 9 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Hatay caused a minor upset, overcoming Avenida by just 4 points in Euroleague. Hurst was one of Hatay’s best and provided some sharp shooting from the perimeter with 14 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

Campus Promete continued their good run, overcoming Al-Qazeres 82-70 as Nicole Romeo dominated with 20 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

It was an ugly day in the office for Dynamo Moscow, who came up against the star-studded side of UMMC and suffered a brutal 100-41 point loss. Despite the grim game, Katie-Rae Ebzery provided some highlights with 10 points and 3 assists, while Alex Bunton totalled 9 points and 7 rebounds.
