The Sydney Uni Flames’ dominant Round 12 effort of two road wins has situated them just one game behind Dandenong in top spot, as their solid form starts to consistently pay off on the scoreboard.
It wasn’t as easy as expected when the Flames went to Adelaide, however they ground out a 72-89 win nonetheless. Asia Taylor was on a mission with 26 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals as she led her team to victory. Both Alex Wilson (18 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists) and Jennifer Hamson (12 points, 14 rebounds) were integral to the Flames inside out play.
For the Lightning, it was Samantha Logic and Colleen Planeta getting it done, both finishing up on 17 points and 7 rebounds each.
The real test for Sydney lay in their next game the following day, as they flew over to Perth to take on the Lynx. The Lynx don’t like losing at home, and would be seething after this 69-83 loss to the Flames.
It was once again Asia Taylor who led Sydney to their emphatic win, totalling 21 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Point guard Leilani Mitchell also ran rings around the Lynx with 27 points.
It was missed targets that cost Perth in this match – an unusual stat for the sharp shooting team. Despite this, the dominant Sami Whitcomb still finished on 22 points.
