WNBA: Phoenix and Liberty grind out wins, while Storm suffer three losses
The Phoenix Mercury and New York Liberty were able to secure wins over the past week, but Seattle faced some difficulties as they lost three in a row.
Phoenix secured a close win over the Indiana Fever at 98-90, with credit to a 38-point outburst from one of the WNBA’s best tall's in Brittany Griner.
Griner was supported by a wealth of Aussie talent, as Steph Talbot, Leilani Mitchell and Cayla George were all able to make an impact to get the win over the line. Mitchell put in a solid performance, notching up 14 points on the board along with a massive 7 assists. Talbot banked 11 points, and George had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Things didn’t go to plan for Phoenix in their next match-up, as the LA Sparks were able to steal a 2-point victory. Talbot had solid impact on the game, making 4 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, while Mitchell had 4 points and 3 rebounds.
Sami Whitcomb’s Seattle Storm suffered a crucial 3-point loss to Indiana, with Whitcomb unable to make an impact, the Fever were able to clinch the victory.
The New York Liberty were out for revenge as they came up against the Seattle Storm, with Whitcomb the difference in a massive win for the Storm a few rounds ago against New York. Rebecca Allen was reliable with 3 points and 4 rebounds, and Whitcomb tried hard with 5 points and 2 rebounds.
Things didn’t get better for the Storm, who suffered a third consecutive loss as they came up against Atlanta, going down 91-86. Whitcomb did what she could with 3 points and 3 steals.
In other news, two of our Aussies playing for the Mercury in Leilani Mitchell and Steph Talbot celebrated their birthdays this week!
