Thybulle focused on NBA season, not potential Boomers opportunity yet

Philadelphia 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle, who is a dual citizen of the United States and Australia, was asked about his thoughts on national team play on Saturday afternoon, after the Sixers notched their fourth consecutive loss, this time against the Milwaukee Bucks in a 101-112 scoreline.

According to ESPN's Kane Pitman, Thybulle made it clear that Philadelphia's championship chase remains the focus for now, and that discussions on anything else would have to wait for himself, teammate Ben Simmons, and for Sixers (and Australian Boomers) head coach, Brett Brown.

"I mean, it's all in the back of our minds and I know we are excited to have a conversation once we are able to but right now, we are focused on taking care of this season," Thybulle shared. "I think the opportunity to play in the Olympics itself is an honour. To represent something bigger than yourself, like your country and whatever that country might stand for is something that is a huge opportunity.

"For myself, I can't say I've put too much thought into which one I'd like to go to, which [opportunity] I'd like to take, but I think this season is going to be a good opportunity to showcase myself and figure out what opportunities I have at the end of the season."

The prospect of Thybulle being in a potential Boomers roster alongside Ben Simmons and Josh Green, could result in a defensive powerhouse for Australia in the coming years.

Thybulle, who has been known as a tenacious defender, is averaging 4.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in his rookie season. He did not make the Rising Stars roster for the upcoming All-Star 2020 event in Chicago, and inadvertently made headlines when his agent, Eric Goodwin released a statement via Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, commenting on the NBA assistant coaches' decision to leave Thybulle out.
