Philadelphia 76ers waive Jonah Bolden
Boomers big man Jonah Bolden, who has struggled to stay on the Philadelphia 76ers’ rotation this 2019/20 NBA season, has been released from the team.
Before news broke, Sixers forward Tobias Harris had hinted that Bolden would not be with the team. According to an official release from the Sixers, Bolden was waived to make room for Norvel Pelle, who has been on a two-way deal with Philadelphia this season. The terms of Pelle’s new NBA contract was not disclosed. Over the past two seasons, Pelle has appeared in 43 G League games (32 starts) for the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers’ G League affiliate, averaging 11.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 22.8 minutes.
This season, Bolden has struggled to find his place with the team. He played a total of four games with the 76ers, and averaged 3.6 minutes of playing time. He was also sent to the G League, and recorded 11.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists across 14 games played with the Blue Coats.
It is unclear where Bolden will be headed next, but having another NBA team claim him as a low-risk option isn’t unthinkable. A non-traditional, high energy big man who is capable of shooting and making the right play on both ends of the court, Bolden will still have plenty to offer in the right situation.
