WNBL: 2025 New Year's resolutions
It's a new year and some WNBL teams will be hoping for a change in fortunes, while others will be looking to continue their upward trajectory.
With 2024 now in the rearview mirror and the WNBL season past the halfway point, some teams are distancing themselves from the pack, while others are falling behind. As we kick off 2025, it’s time to look at some New Year’s resolutions across the league.
Bendigo (12-2) – Keep it rolling!

Bendigo is taking all before them, and despite losing two of their last four games, they are undisputedly the team to beat in the race for the 2024/25 championship. They have a well-balanced team of genuine superstar players and players that are superstars in their roles.
Sami Whitcomb is the runaway leader for league MVP honours, while import Veronica Burton has turned out to be the perfect backcourt pairing alongside Whitcomb. Marianna Tolo (15.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game) has picked up where she left off when she last played in the WNBL back in 2020.
Kelsey Griffin had a delayed start to the season due to injury, but she’s back to her best, while Casey Samuels, Kelly Wilson and Abbey Wehrung are the perfect compliment, making this Bendigo team a star-studded and deep squad.
This Spirit squad moves the ball as good as anyone and are shooting a league-best 37.1% from deep, while committing the fewest turnovers (12.2 per game). They have the recipe and ingredients for success, now they just have to keep it rolling.
Perth (10-3) – A fit and firing Amy Atwell
The Perth Lynx are a joy to watch and coach Ryan Patrik has built a squad that fits his run and gun style to perfection. Having won their last four games and within striking distance of Bendigo at the top of the table, they are on a roll with the likes of Anneli Maley, Ally Wilson, Laeticia Amihere and Miela Sowah all having great seasons.
