We’re two games into the Opals 2024 Paris Olympic campaign, and it’s interesting to ponder whether there are more question marks or answers. To be clear: have the questions surrounding the squad been answered (in disappointing fashion), or is there time to turn things around and produce a more consistent 40-minute effort?
With a red-hot French team up next on Monday morning (AEST), the Opals will be facing their toughest opponent of the tournament so far and will clearly need to be better in just about every aspect than what they have shown through two games.
This Opals squad has so far failed the eye test. Although they bounced back and got the vital win over Canada, there was a sense of déjà vu when turnovers started to mount. With that being said, grinding out a win over the world’s fifth-ranked Canada is not to be sneezed at, and there were definitive signs of improvement.
Is this version of the Opals going to be remembered for turnovers, or for fighting through an embarrassing opening loss and making it out of the group stage?
