Three Australian Boomers ready for a post-Olympics NBA breakout season
Following an impactful Olympics tournament with the Australian Boomers in Paris, these Australian NBA athletes are poised to make a mark with their new teams this season.
The 2024 Summer Olympic basketball tournament ended in disappointment for the Australian Boomers, who crashed out at the quarter-final stage against Serbia, after holding a 24-point lead at one point. It was an anticlimactic follow up to their seminal bronze medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and represented a changing of the guard. Senior personnel like Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova and Joe Ingles have all likely played in their last Olympic tournament, raising questions about the future direction of the team.

There are currently ten Australians returning to an NBA roster from last season - not including Kyrie Irving - and that group may well be joined by Jack McVeigh (Houston Tockets, two-way contract) and Johnny Furphy (Indiana Pacers). Of the NBA’s Australian continent, three players in particular have breakout potential in the 2024-25 season, and these names will feature heavily in future Boomers rosters.
