The young guns taking the WNBL by storm

There is no shortage of youthful stars set to make a huge impact in the WNBL this season.

A new wave of electric young talent is beginning to take over the basketball landscape in Australia.

Five years ago we were put on notice when the polished Sapphire squad claimed gold at the FIBA U17 World Cup. At the U19 event in 2019, the Gems took the USA to overtime in the championship game, and just this year the team reclaimed that silver medal.

Astute followers of the women’s game would know that the junior hoopers coming through the ranks over the last five years are a special group. These players are now beginning to take the WNBL by storm.

The Betty Watson Youth Player of the Year Award is given to the most outstanding player, 23 years or under, in the WNBL. Now more than ever, this award will be hotly contested.
