Tom Wilson’s return to NBL1 with Melbourne Tigers may be the basketball comeback of the year. After spending five seasons playing Australian rules football with the Collingwood Magpies, he has returned to the sport where he won high honours as a youth, captaining Australia’s Under 17 and Under 19 teams.

But, as he tells it, his headline-making return was more down to happenstance than any grand plan.

“To be honest, it sort of had nothing to do with basketball,” Wilson tells The Pick and Roll.
