The Bendigo Spirit put together one of the great WNBL seasons in 2024/25, but how do they compare to other all-time championship campaigns?
The Bendigo Spirit just put the final touch on an incredible season, finishing a stellar year with a championship winning playoff campaign.
Led by some of the all-time greats of Australian basketball, the Spirit looked close to untouchable for most of the season. It raises an interesting question - where do they rank amongst the league’s great teams?
Here are the best groups to ever do it in the WNBL.

When this year’s championship roster first got put together it was clear they were going to be a contender. Yes, there were questions about the overall age of the team and the other support pieces, but they were always going to factor in the business end of the competition.
From their first game it was clear the Spirit were the real deal and they didn’t slow down. And when push came to shove in the postseason, they were far too good. The big names played well and players like Veronica Burton, Casey Samuels, and Abbey Wehrung all stepped up at various points across the year.
Sami Whitcomb was one of the easiest picks for MVP in the competition’s history and Kelly Wilson broke the all-time assists record. Not a bad year for Bendigo basketball.
