Taking stock at the WNBL season's midway point
Townsville's dominance remains, but what else have we seen?
Round 8 is underway, and that means we’re now entering the second half of the 2023/24 WNBL season. In a season that started with so much change and player movement throughout the league, there is one constant that has carried over from last season; the Townsville Fire are a very good basketball team.
Every team made big moves over the offseason in hopes of chasing down the defending champion Fire, but Townsville has answered the challenge and sits atop of the ladder, with just one loss to their name.
That being said, the competition within the league this season has been on another level, with so many close games and comeback wins showcasing that on any given night anything can happen. Let’s take a look at how each team is tracking, midway through the season.
Townsville Fire (8 wins, 1 loss)

As mentioned above, the Fire have been near perfect this season. Their only loss was a one-point nailbiter at the hands of a gutsy Southside squad early in the early rounds, but since then they have been on a tear.
