Coming off a strong WNBL season with the Geelong Venom, where she averaged 12.96 points and 4.09 assists per game, Jaz Shelley has kept the momentum rolling into her NBL1 season with NBL1 team Norths Bears, where she is averaging 24.12 points per game and 43.58% on three-pointers.
It’s a stellar start to her move to Sydney. Shelley says she was won over by Norths coach Renae Garlepp, who also coaches the WNBL team she will join next season, the Sydney Flames.
“She just pitched to me that she’s going to really focus on my development and help me reach some of the goals that I have for myself,” Shelley tells The Pick and Roll.
“She really wanted to give me a cool experience in Sydney, and I thought it was a good opportunity for my NBL1.
“Obviously, I’ve now signed with Sydney Flames, but I was kind of focused on what’s best for me right now, and I thought then I’d figure out my WNBL process from there.
“I think it’s been a really good move to be able to learn Renae’s system and how she coaches and how she helps develop. It gives me a little bit of an upper hand going into the WNBL season, and with the players we have for the Flames at the moment, I’m super excited to start working with them too.”
