Silver linings: What the bottom four WNBL teams can build upon for season 2024/25
While the WNBL postseason is getting underway, four teams are already looking ahead to 2024/25.
With postseason action in the WNBL getting underway last night as the Southside Flyers came away with an impressive win against the Melbourne Boomers, and more action tonight when the Townsville Fire host the visiting Perth Lynx, there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks.
For half of the WNBL teams though, it’s already all about next season and building towards improving their squad. While the four teams that missed postseason action will be disappointed right now, each of them have reason to be excited about the future.
Sydney Flames (11 wins, 10 losses)
The Sydney Flames were unable to build momentum or consistency throughout the season and ultimately fell short against Townsville in the final game of the season when a win would have seen them snatch the fourth and final playoff spot.

After a signing spree that saw them ink 2023 WNBL MVP Cayla George, Opals captain Tess Madgen, newly crowned WNBL Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Nicholson, rising star and Los Angeles Spark draftee Shaneice Swain and WNBA player Didi Richards, things didn’t quite go to plan.
