SEABL Conference Finals Set

The ship has been righted across the men's and women's competition with the top two sides from all conferences making their respective finals.

The Lady Supercats were made to fight against the Spectres, trailing by two points at three-quarter time after the visitors jumped them to lead by double-digits in the opening term.

Geelong clawed their way back though, tying the match with just over two minutes remaining before Alex Duck (20 points) and Sara Blicavs (19 and 11 rebounds) pulled them over the line for a 57-53 win to earn the right to face Dandenong next weekend.

In the South Conference, Kilsyth will host Bendigo in the Conference Final after gaining a 21-10 lead at quarter-time against Launceston- an advantage they would never surrender.

The Tornadoes made the contest interesting with a 21-7 run in the fourth period but it proved too little too late as they fell 75-62 despite 31 points and nine rebounds from Alex Wilson and 10 and 13 from Mikaela Ruef.

Kilsyth were led by MVP candidate Steph Cumming (25 and seven with three steals) while Cassie Sant (13 points), Rosie Moult (12) and Sarah Parsons (13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals) also contributed.

In the men's competition, all five Supercats starters reached double-figures in a 97-80 win over Dandenong to earn a re-match with Albury-Wodonga.

Daequon Montreal (24 points, ten rebounds) and Lucas Walker (13 and ten) were resilient in the front court and helped the Rangers to a 17-9 advantage in points off turnovers but Geelong shot 47% behind perfect 4-4 shooting from Eric Gaff (11 and 18).

Kimmani Barrett (23 points, four steals) and Nick Owusu (20 points) starred while Nathan Herbert stuffed the stat-sheet with 20 points, five boards, six assists and two steals.

Finally, on the back of a 46-33 second half, Bendigo took care of N-W Tasmania in the South Conference Preliminary Final, winning 83-73.

Tony Lewis (26 points, 11 rebounds) bounced back from a disappointing performance the previous week in a great battle under the rim with Fred Hunter (20 and 13).

Alongside Kevin Probert (11 and seven with seven assists), Lewis and he nailed six three-pointers to help the Braves to a 21-point advantage from beyond the arc in a clinical offensive performance.

That sets up a re-match between Bendigo and the Championship favourite Pioneers. The SEABL Grand Finals will be held on Saturday, September 12.
