Another year, another major tournament for the Opals.
The 2026 FIBA World Cup will take place in September in host country Germany, with the best players around the world congregating for a chance at glory.
The Opals have medalled at six of the last seven World Cups, with 2010 the one year they missed out in that run. They claimed bronze last time out as the host nation and will be looking to at least match that result in September.
As we start to edge closer to the tournament, speculation on the squad will begin to grow.
The Opals have named a 19-player squad for a qualifying tournament that they will play in, despite already booking their spot in the tournament after winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. That has given us a good indication of who is in the frame for selection, but doesn’t completely rule out those not included.
