NBL delivers media access solution for The Pick and Roll
As reported on Saturday, The Pick and Roll’s volunteer contributors had their media credential applications rejected without warning on the eve of the 2019/20 NBL season.
The Pick and Roll and the NBL have since been in regular contact and clarified the arrangements with accreditation this season to implement a sensible outcome for the benefit of the sport, the league, its clubs and players.
It’s understood the evolving stature of the NBL within the Australian sporting landscape has placed the league with growing pains and an increasing strain involving venue constraints and demands for access, including ones from various levels of media. Despite the positive challenges being encountered by a league that is quickly gaining worldwide attention, I’m pleased to advise that The Pick and Roll will have a media presence at a growing number of games throughout the NBL season.
NBL General Manager of Media and Communications Nick Johnston said: “The Pick and Roll provides an important service for Australian basketball fans and we are pleased to have them covering the Hungry Jack’s NBL again this season.
“As the popularity of the NBL continues to grow we are receiving more media requests from not just around Australia but around the world. We are a professional sporting league and we have to manage the accreditation process accordingly but there will always be a place for The Pick and Roll in our game.
“At its heart basketball is a community sport and volunteers are a critical part of our game. The Pick and Roll is passionate about basketball at all levels and has been launching pad for many young aspiring basketball writers.”
The NBL has made significant strides over recent years, and The Pick and Roll looks forward to supporting the success of the league, both now and into the future.
We have talented writers ready to help boost our coverage of the NBL for the coming season, and being able to provide them with media access at games is a crucial of their development, with the sport set to benefit from years to come.
Through The Pick and Roll, we have developed a strong community that does more than just follow Australian basketball – we are passionate about it. The groundswell of support provided by the #AussieHoops community blew us away. It’s fantastic to know that what we have been doing is not only appreciated, but valued. Our team were overwhelmed by the support and further encouraged to continue what we have done – weave unique basketball narratives, report on the facts, share an impartial, fair opinion, and stand up for what is right.
Thanks to everyone who supports our work at The Pick and Roll and for #AussieHoops. Make sure you continued to follow us our social media channels, read the latest stories on our site, check out our new online store and perhaps shout the guys a coffee.
We'll keep on doing what we do best!
