Mitch Creek confirms debut with South East Melbourne Phoenix
It's finally happening - Mitch Creek will be joining the South East Melbourne Phoenix for the 2019/20 NBL season.
“I'm really excited to get back to Melbourne and start preparing for the NBL season. The Phoenix have been really supportive of me the last few months, I couldn't have asked for more, and I’m more than going to repay the favour,” Creek shared, via the Phoenix. "I love the recent additions to the team and can't wait to get to work. If you were thinking about signing on as a Phoenix member do it now, it’s going to be an exciting season.”
Phoenix head coach, Simon Mitchell has lauded Creek's qualities as a leader, and more importantly the ones he thinks the club should embody.
“Mitch was the club's first signing," coach Mitchell said.
"It was an obvious choice as he embodies everything, we want this club to stand for, honesty, hard work, selflessness and passion. On top of this, he is a hell of basketballer who allows everyone to walk a little taller in his presence.”
Creek recently played in the NBA's 2019 Summer League at Las Vegas, and once again impressed with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He helped lead the Timberwolves to the Summer League finals, and was among the tournament's offensive efficiency leaders, as reported by Synergy. The forward averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists over 25.7 minutes.
“I did everything humanly possible to make my NBA dream come true and have no regrets. From the second I got out of bed until after I go to bed, I made sure I leave impressions on everyone. Knowing all that I can live with the results,” Creek said.
Creek last played for the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL, and led the team to the 2017/18 Grand Finals against Melbourne Untied.
