After averaging 5.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg and 3.1 apg as the starting point guard for the Australian U17 men's squad at last year's FIBA U17 World Championship, Owies started to receive interest from Washington St, Arkansas (Little Rock) and Northern Colorado, with interest from Hawaii coming soon-after.
The University of Hawaii's Australian pipeline comes through Ganot, who was on Saint Mary's coaching staff from 2003 to 2015. With Ganot at the helm, Hawaii will have two Australians on their roster for the upcoming season - Jack Purchase and Jakob Cornellisen.
