Mangok Mathiang waived by Charlotte Hornets
Australian forward Mangok Mathiang's NBA journey with the Charlotte Hornets has come to a close for now.
Earlier today, the Hornets officially announced their decision to waive Mathiang via Mitch Kupchak, President of Basketball Operations & General Manager.
Mathiang, who signed a two-way contract with Charlotte in 2017, suited up for four games with the Hornets. He averaged 2.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in 5.0 minutes per night. The forward also played in 43 games for the Hornets' G-League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, and averaged 10.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.1 assists over 25.3 minutes per game.

During the recent Summer League, Mathiang spoke to The Pick and Roll's Kane Pitman about the challenges moving to the NBA circuit involved.
“I tell [Adel and Reath] that you know what type of player you are, your coaches and the staff know what type of player you are, and you wouldn’t make it this far if they didn’t have any type of faith in you. Everybody has their timing, everybody has there moment and you just have to be ready for that moment,” Mathiang said.
“By the time you come out of college, you’re basically one of the best players on your team. Then you come to the NBA – or at least try to make a team – and you start all over again. You go through recruitment again, you become a rookie and sit out games.”
