Another Olympic campaign for the Australian Boomers is now officially in the books. As the dust settles and we begin to make peace with our elimination at the hands of Serbia, the focus shifts to what’s next.
The hybrid phase of our national team’s retool is now, it seems, over. The opportunity we had with two generations crossing paths, held the potential to be the best of both worlds, but in execution often felt clunky and disconnected. While our pool of talent might never have been better, the current group was not able to surpass the heights of Tokyo’s ‘Rose Gold’ achievement.
Now, a full lean in to the next generation is set to occur around a Josh Giddey-led offence going forward, as we seek to supplement the irreplaceable production of the earlier generation, including potentially Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova and Joe Ingles.
