Australian sophomore forward Keely Froling has announced that she will depart Southern Methodist University following the 2015-16 season and return to Australia to continue her basketball career.
Froling arrived at Southern Methodist in 2014 with twin sister Alicia, and played in 28 games in her freshman year and averaging 5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in her first season. The 6’2 forward then suffered an ACL injury late in the season, which hampered her preparations for her sophomore year. Froling missed the first part of the 2015-16 season, eventually playing in 21 games this year. She managed to average 3.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in what has turned out to be her final season of college basketball, helping the Mustangs improve from a dismal 7-23 in 2014-15 to a more respectable 13-18 record in 2015-16.
Froling has not at this point outlined any reasons for her departure, with a message of thanks on Instagram her only announcement at this time.
Despite Keely’s departure, the Froling family will maintain a healthy presence at Southern Methodist, as brother Harry joins the men’s team in 2016-17, whilst Alicia continues to flourish at the Mustangs.
