The Perth Lynx had to watch on from the sidelines for the first five weeks of the season, but after nearly 400 days between games they finally hit the court over the weekend and despite losing in an epic battle to the Adelaide Lightning, the signs of a deadly team were there for everyone to see.
It’s crazy to think that Perth didn’t play a single game in 2021, but after the shortened bubble season wrapped up prior to Christmas 2020 and border restrictions meant this season their tip off was delayed until 2022. The amount of star power in their starting five would be causing some sleepless nights for opposition coaches. Against Adelaide, Perth started Jackie Young, Marina Mabrey, Sami Whitcomb, Darcee Garbin and Lauren Scherf.
For those playing along at home, that’s three current Australian Opal squad members, a deadly – and fiery – sharpshooter, and a 2020 Olympic Gold medallist. The Lynx also have another Opal squad member in Alex Sharp coming off the bench.
