This time last year, Jacob Furphy was leading the Australian Emus at the Under-19 World Cup. A year later, he’s starting his tenure at Boston College after a season with the UConn Huskies.
Unrelated to Indiana Pacers forward Johnny Furphy, Jacob grew up in Tasmania and has been draped in green and gold in countless youth teams as well as being selected for the Boomers at the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers. He has found himself at Basketball Without Borders, both Asia and Global, as well as the NBA Global Academy, where he first crossed paths with UConn.
UConn just made it to the pointiest end of March Madness but fell short to the Michigan Wolverines. That Wolverines team had three of its players selected in the top 12 of the 2026 NBA Draft, with their head coach Dusty May also ascending to league as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. That’s what it took to beat UConn by six points.
