“It was quite a shock,” Steph Reid tells The Pick and Roll of being named Opals captain for the recent Trans-Tasman series against New Zealand.

The 28-year-old had no inkling that the team hierarchy would nominate a captain for the series, let alone that she would get the job.

‘It was so unexpected, to be honest, when I was awarded that. It's such an honour and a privilege, and not something I want to take for granted.

“I honed in on enjoying the basketball because playing for the Opals is such an enjoyable experience. I was trying to bring good vibes and make sure the newcomers felt really comfortable in that environment.”
