How is the WNBL’s next generation tracking?

We’re now seven rounds into a COVID-19 disrupted WNBL season, and some of the league’s brightest stars have again come from the youth brigade.

Each season, players aged 23 and under compete for the Betty Watson Australian Youth Player of the Year. We take a look at some of the most promising candidates and how their games are progressing.

No player in this age group has shown such exciting improvement as Anneli Maley. As recently as last season, she looked like an elite rebounder with a relatively limited offensive game. Now, she’s second in the league in scoring average while continuing to crash the boards like a demon, easily leading all players in rebounds per game.
