How Courtney Woods is thriving as a leader in Townsville
The resourceful guard has been huge for a Fire team who are once again looking bound for finals basketball.

Last season was a breakthrough for Courtney Woods, where she progressed from a hidden gem in a deep Townsville team to become a starter and a focal point of the team’s offence.
She’s having another productive season in WNBL25; her 14.9 points per game is 11th among all players, while she ranks in the top ten for assists per game (four) and free-throw percentage (78.6%).
Woods had been preparing for a more substantial role for a long time. Her basketball journey started when she was just four years old. She began playing after watching her mother, Dana Woods (nee Fish), a now former college and WNBL player, in action.
“I grew up watching my Mum play, and I was always running around on the side of the court,” Woods tells The Pick and Roll.
“It’s been a real family thing; my siblings played, and both my parents played.
