Is there a more important player to the Opals’ chances of returning to the podium later this year at a home FIBA Women’s World Cup than Bec Allen?

You’d be hard-pressed to find a player who impacts the game on both ends of the floor to the level that Allen does and after an impressive showing in Serbia at the recent FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers, she showed the world just how influential she really is.

As the Opals rediscovered their defensive intensity in Serbia, it was Allen who helped lead the way. It all started on that end of the court, literally, as an Allen steal in the opening minute of play against Brazil led to a Sami Whitcomb lay-up to open Australia’s scoring account.
