The NBA is going to have to wait a little longer for Alex Condon to arrive.

Over his three years at the University of Florida, the Perth-born big man has gone from a relative unknown to a genuine NBA prospect. In that time, he’s had a college career that most could only dream of – countless big games in front of huge crowds, a pair of All-SEC selections, and last year’s national championship that was sealed with his desperate dive to grab a loose ball and close out the title game.

In that moment, he was at the centre of the basketball universe, with the chance to instantly cash in. Projected as a late-first-round pick in the NBA draft, he entered his name, worked out for a handful of teams, but ultimately returned to Florida to chase back-to-back titles. He and the Gators fell short of that goal in last month’s NCAA tournament, and he again found himself in the same situation, with the NBA calling and a spot in the league within reach.
