After an impressive showing for the Australian U17 Sapphires at the FIBA U17 World Championship for Women, Pineau began to receive interest from a number of colleges.
Pineau averaged 8.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg at the event – highlighted by a 23 point, 12 rebound performance against Japan in the tournament opener. Although there were many schools interested in Pineau, Boston College, the University of Hawaii, Fresno, Saint Mary’s and Wyoming were recruiting her the hardest.
In what was an interesting – and admirable – decision, Pineau decided not to join her brother, Dane, at Saint Mary’s, whilst also turning down Hawaii – her father’s alma mater.
I chose Boston College because I really liked the coaching staff and the players. I really wanted to play with, and against, some of the best players, and obviously the ACC is one of the top conferences.
Boston College had been recruiting Pineau since December of last year. She has since represented Victoria at the U20’s Australian Junior Championships, averaging 11.75 ppg and 5.62 rpg en route to the National Championship.
Pineau will most definitely be able to contribute to the program as soon as she arrives, but she has her sights set on the ultimate picture.
I liked the fact that they value education so highly because, in the end, that is the reason we go to college – to come out with a degree.
