There was speculation that the Suns would buy him out, in order to allow the big man options on signing and contribute his defensive talents on a playoffs contender next season. Arizona radio host John Gambadoro however, made it clear Baynes would be playing with the Phoenix Suns.

Baynes was a major contributor on the Boston Celtics, and shored up their front court defence along with All-Star Al Horford, who is reportedly leaving the Celtics in free agency as well.
He averaged 6 points, 5.4 rebounds during the 2017/18 season, and had reduced production in the last season (5.6 points, 4.7 rebounds) due to injuries.
