This week news broke that Gold Coast is pitching for an NBL license to join the competition in 2024.

It comes after the stunning debut season of the Tasmania JackJumpers and as interest in the league continues to move forward in leaps and bounds.

Like Tasmania, Gold Coast has its own NBL history, competing in the competition as both the Cougars and Rollers in the 1990s, before returning more recently as the Blaze in 2007.

As we ponder the return of the Queensland team, the question of increased expansion is also raised.

So just where could the next NBL teams be based? We take a look at Gold Coast’s appeal, plus some other top contenders.

As mentioned earlier, the Gold Coast is no stranger to the NBL.

Combined, the Cougars, Rollers and Blaze played total of 12 seasons, sadly walking away without a championship.
