ESPN to broadcast NBL's debut NBA preseason games live
The NBL making its way into NBA preseason games this year is a historical first, and ESPN's making sure Australian fans get another option to catch these games live.
The NBA and ESPN announced earlier today, that all three preseason games will be broadcast on ESPN in Australia.
“We are excited to be able to have these games broadcast live in Australia,” Loeliger told Fox Sports Australia. “It’s a great opportunity showcase Australian basketball on the biggest basketball stage in the world.
"While this is a first for the NBL, we hope these games can become a regular event in years to come.”
The NBL, led by Larry Kestelman has made a concerted effort to grow its partnership with the NBA, and these preseason games are definitely a step in the right direction. It's too early to tell if this will eventually lead to an NBA game in Australia, but we can certainly hope.
The preseason games are as follow, with times listed in AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time):
Tuesday Oct. 3 at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN – Sydney Kings @ Utah Jazz
Monday Oct. 9 at 6:00 a.m. on ESPN – Melbourne United @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Saturday Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN – Brisbane Bullets @ Phoenix Suns
The Sydney Kings, who play the Utah Jazz, will have to return quickly for the NBL's season opener on 5 October. This first game also features fellow Australian Joe Ingles, who recently re-signed with the team during the NBA's off-season.
Outside of ESPN's telecast, these games will also be available on NBA League Pass.
