Developing league of its own – UBL aims eventually to emulate college basketball

Three years in, and Australia has begun to have its own study and hoop alternative for those who wish to remain in Australia – in the form of the University Basketball League.

The UBL began as a simple idea as most leagues do when institutions from Victoria and New South Wales played off against each in an inter-varsity tournament in 2020. An introduction of one solitary Western Australian representative led to the inaugural start of the league in 2021.

Inbox: The NBL will partner with UniSport Australia to develop a University Basketball League. It sounds like it could act as a replacement, of sorts, to SEABL. Story to come.

Year One (2021)

A four-month seven team league formed the basis for an exciting youth development competition that consistently can generate players through University students entering their first year after high school – often sticking around for four to five years depending on the length of their study.
