Nestled along the Warta River in Poland is the city of Gorzów Wielkopolski (often shortened to ‘Gorzów’). It’s around the same size as Ballarat and is similarly noted for its love of sports and its penchant for producing high-end athletes. It’s where Chloe Bibby plied her trade last season and took her game to a new level.
“It was everything and more than I could have hoped for,” Bibby tells The Pick and Roll. “Poland was honestly great. It’s a country I hadn’t heard much about, but I thought: ‘You know what, why not give it a crack and see what it’s like over there’. The cultural aspect of it is very different to Australia, but I embraced it all and had a blast.”
The 25-year-old thrived in the new environment, scoring 20.9 points and collecting 5.9 rebounds per game in the Polish league, and tallied 22 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game in EuroCup competition. She continued to develop as an outside threat (38.6% from deep in domestic competition) and helped lift her team to finish runners-up.
