Canada awaits the Opals in New York for World Cup warm-ups
The Australian Opals are back in action later this month in a pair of games against Canada, as preparations for the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup continue.

The countdown is on for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. With less than 10 weeks until the tournament tips off in Sydney, the Opals’ preparations are heating up. Next week, the 15-woman Opals squad will take on Canada in a pair of games in New York, and while it’s all about the team, every individual will be out to prove their worth to coach Sandy Brondello and the selectors.
I’ve been critical of some selection decisions in recent times by Brondello, namely inexplicably leaving Sami Whitcomb out of the Tokyo Olympics squad, but I’ve got to say this squad selected to take on Canada —the fourth-ranked team in the world— gets a massive tick from me.
