There’s always a buzz in the air when state bragging rights are on the line. The games mean more, the play goes up a level, and more often than not, the result is some thrilling action on the court.
This year’s Under-20 Women’s National Championships were certainly no exception, with an enthralling week of basketball playing out in Ballarat. The end result was one of the closest medal races in recent memory — three of the final four games were decided by five points or less, with a game winner at the death in the bronze medal playoff and a back-and-forth thriller to decide the champions.
Under the intense pressure of those do-or-die games, plenty of young stars stood up and showed out for their states. With the dust now settled, we’re looking back at the players that defined the tournament for those final four teams.
