After bypassing college and entering the 2018 NBA Draft, he eventually headed to Europe to play during the 2018/19 season after going undrafted. After a brief stint with Union Neuchâtel in Switzerland which saw him depart prior to Christmas, he then landed in the Slovenian national league with Zlatorog Laško.
The younger Maker last played for Zlatorog Laško in the Slovenian national league. Across 17 games played, 16 as a starter, the 6'10 big man with a 7'3 wingspan contributed 12.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He made an immediate impact, with his side winning 11 of the games he played.
Back in 2017, Matur Maker went head-to-head against the 2019 NBA number 1 draft pick Zion Williamson in the adidas Nations event. Maker delivered a 31 point performance against USA Red 2018, but with Williamson pouring in 28 points of his own, Team Asia Pacific fell short in the championship game, 108-79. He would average 26 points and 7 rebounds playing for Asia Pacific across what was a successful tournament.

Unlike his brother Thon, who fits more as a stretch five on NBA teams, Matur sees himself as a multi-positional player who can play anything from point guard to small forward, depending on the team’s need.
“I play 1-3, defend 1-3 and maybe a little of the 4 depending on how big they are,” he said in an interview prior to the 2018 NBA Draft. “I can play on both ends right now.”
