City and Country will square off in a double-header, featuring a men’s clash and a women’s clash showcasing some of the best talent across the Big V leagues.
It will be the first time that an All-Star type event has been held in the Big V since 2012, when the ‘Big Bounce’ was held in Melbourne, featuring an All-Star clash as well as a dunk competition and shooting contest.
The Origin matchups will feature Victorian players based on where their region of birth, and will feature a mix of players across all league divisions, making for a pair of exciting contests.
League CEO Julie Anderson is looking forward to the inaugural Origin event, with what should prove to be an exciting event held on a weekend when Big V fans and players are usually starved of action.
“The Origin series will provide an opportunity to celebrate the long standing rivalry between the country and city players in Big V.
“We are looking forward to the involvement of the fans and players, and support from the Shepparton community.”
Tony Long, Greater Shepparton Basketball Association Manager, is equally as excited and believes the community will get behind the event.
“As one of the inaugural clubs in the league to continue that country/city rivalry which we all know we have living in the country, it will be a great opportunity for the association and a great opportunity for basketball in general.”
The return of a mid-season exhibition contest between some of the league’s best players is an overdue and welcome addition to the Big V season and is set to be a huge night in Shepparton as a stand-alone contest as the season takes a weekend off over the long weekend.
The event is slated to tip-off at 6pm on June 12th, 2016, with the women’s match to open proceedings before the men hit the court for an 8pm tip.
