Big V 2015: Venom women announce signing of Chastity Reed
Warrandyte’s State Championship women side have secured the signature of highly credentialed import Chastity Reed for the remainder of the Big V season.
Reed comes to Australia with WNBA and European experience, including stints in Romania, Lithuania and Israel, and is set to join the Venom following the conclusion of the Israeli season.
The 6’1” Reed formerly graduated from NCAA Division 1 college University of Arkansas-Little Rock, where she averaged 19.6ppg in her senior year.
Her individual success led to being drafted with pick 25 in the 2011 WNBA draft, heading to the Tulsa Shock where she played in eleven games, including one start, before being waived by the franchise.
The Venom have started 0-3 so far this season but pushed both Hume City and Bulleen all the way in round two, and Head Coach Nicole Howard will be eager to get Reed out on court as they look to improve their record.
“It’s not every day that someone with Chastity’s talent and experience arrives at your club.”
With a young squad, including six players under the age of 22, coach Howard believes Reed’s addition will help her side grow over the course of the season.
“Her leadership and knowledge will help them to become the core group of players that Warrandyte SCW can build their future around.
“The inclusion of Chastity will be tremendous for the league, for our Big V program and for our Venom rep and Redbacks domestic programs.”
Reed is due to arrive in Australia later this week and will suit up in a Warrandyte uniform in the coming rounds.
