There’s a distinct difference between a nomad and a journeyman, and that’s a fairly important distinction when it comes to Steph Reid.
The journeyman tag is often given to a talented athlete, with a stable professional career, but one who rarely stays in one place for long. Reliable, but replaceable. And in many ways, expendable.
Alternatively, a nomad is someone who willingly moves, embraces change, and seeks out new challenges. It’s an apt title for Reid, both as a player and a person, and someone who is definitely not expendable.
The last time I spoke to the star guard, she was schooling grown men at Venice Beach, spending solo days at Disneyworld, and making a name for herself in the world of European basketball.
Since then?
“The list is long,” she laughs, reflecting on her time abroad. “Slovakia, Italy, London, Paris, Greece... every major city in Poland, Portugal, and China.”
It sounds like a Contiki tour, but Reid’s latest trip was a tour de force. Sure, some sightseeing was sprinkled in, but her constant movement across the globe has been part of a deliberate and intentional master plan. She’s in the pursuit of reaching one singular goal. This is how the intrepid point guard’s journey all over the planet has her poised to finally reach the one place she’s always wanted to get to.
