About a week ago, Sami Whitcomb did something only one other WNBA player had ever done. The guard put up 22 points (6 three-pointers included) in Seattle’s second half against New York to spark a major comeback for her team. Alongside her 22 points, Whitcomb also made 4 rebounds.
Whitcomb single-handedly turned things around after sinking three triples in a row in the final 15 minutes. She also managed to hit the three to edge the Storm in front.
Rebecca Allen did what she could for her team, with 2 points and 9 rebounds. However it wasn’t enough to combat a red-hot Whitcomb who was feeling it.
Seattle continued with their winning form, surpassing Indiana at 94-70. Whitcomb was much quieter in this contest but still impactful, providing 9 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Phoenix Mercury absolutely dominated the Dallas Wings at 107-65. Leilani Mitchell top scored for the match in a brilliant display, banking 19 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. The Mercury have been in good form and took advantage of an inexperienced and injury-hit Wings side.
Fellow Aussie Cayla George who made 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Steph Talbot who baked 5 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist, complimented Mitchell’s efforts in the match.
Phoenix continued their great run, bringing home a good win over Chicago at 99-91. The story of this match was Diana Taurasi’s 37 points which set the WNBA career 3 pointers record, and put her into No.2 of all time on the WNBA career scoring list. Mitchell also continued her incredible form, with 14 points and 4 rebounds to her name. Talbot had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists and George had 3 rebounds.
Rebecca Allen’s Liberty had a tough week, after their loss to Seattle they couldn’t get over the line against the LA Sparks, going down 90-75. Allen was only able to make 1 rebound, while her teammate and WNBA Veteran Tina Charles did her best with 25 points.
