Aussies in WNBA: Talbot steps up for Mercury
The New York Liberty had a tough start to the week, going down to the Washington Mystics at 67-54. A total of 19 turnovers committed by the Liberty put them out of question, as the Mystics only lost the ball 6 times. Rebecca Allen had 3 rebounds for the match, which was a tough day in the office for the entire Liberty team.
The Connecticut Sun continued their good form against Seattle, claiming the win at 96-89. Sami Whitcomb was in good form, banking 6 points for the Storm who were led by the brilliance of Breanna Stewart. It was Jasmine Thomas (29 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists) and Jonquel Jones (13 points, 10 rebounds) who dominated for the Sun and brought the win home.
Able to turn things around however, the Storm were successful against the Dallas Wings a few days later, taking home an 89-69 point win. Whitcomb was again reliable with 3 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists, but it was all things Breanna Stewart again, who landed 30 points and 10 rebounds.
Phoenix were also victims of a loss this week, going down to the Minnesota Lynx 91-83. Despite the loss, the game saw young Aussie gun Steph Talbot play an outstanding match. Talbot totalled 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Her teammate Leilani Mitchell grabbed 3 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists while Cayla George was only able to grab 1 rebound and 1 assist.
