Aussies in WNBA: Wrapping up the names not in postseason action
Looking back at the season that was for the Australians that didn't make the 2023 WNBA playoffs.
The 2023 WNBA playoffs tipped off yesterday, and with mouthwatering first-round matchups, not to mention tantalising possible second round and Finals meetings, there’s plenty to be excited about.
There are Aussies lining up across a number of series, with big roles to be played by some. Bec Allen is a key component of Connecticut’s quest to make it back to the Finals for a second season in a row, while Alanna Smith and Cayla George are currently going head to head with Las Vegas holding a 1-0 lead over Chicago in their series after the Aces dismantled the Sky 87-59 yesterday.
Sandy Brondello is also in the thick of the action as her Liberty squad gets set to take on the Mystics in a massive first round clash.
While those players are still in the hunt for a championship and will have plenty written about them in the coming weeks, today we’re going to focus on the Australian players whose WNBA seasons have already come to a close after failing to make the postseason.
While the below players obviously won’t be achieving the ultimate goal of a championship, it’s fair to say they all had encouraging seasons and will be looking to build on that form going forward, whether that’s in the WNBL or Europe over the offseason.
