Answering the most intriguing questions of the WNBL season
In the pre-season, we posed eight of the most burning questions heading into the upcoming 2023/24 WNBL campaign. With the season now wrapped, let’s go back and answer them.
Now that the dust has settled, the blue and white confetti cleared, it’s as good a time as any to reflect on an unforgettable WNBL season. While Southside reached the summit, it was a season punctuated by star-making efforts and legacy defining performances, comebacks, injuries, and an abundance of fascinating storylines, all ahead of the upcoming Olympics. But prior to all that, we posed these questions as some of the most pressing prior to the new season. Let’s go back and answer them.

Can Izzy Borlase fill the void left by Steph Talbot?
When first posing this question, I initially wrote:
“A WNBA contract, Opals consideration, and MVP votes are all in her future. With Talbot likely still sidelined for a good portion of that season, we’re about to find out how are away that future is.”
It turns out, that future is already here. Borlase was awarded her first Opals call-up in January, named an MVP finalist in February, and is now a lock to be drafted in this month’s WNBA draft. And, it cannot be stressed enough, is still just 19. It’s not hyperbole to already suggest she could one day be mentioned alongside some of the game’s greats.
