For many players, a call-up to WNBA training camp would be overwhelming. In a whirlwind year for Bendigo Spirit stat Anneli Maley, the invite to train with the Chicago Sky after the WNBL season is a great opportunity, albeit one she hasn’t turned her mind to yet.

“I’m going to reach out to some people that have been to a camp to get some tips on what to expect, but to be honest, I haven’t thought about it,” she says. Speaking to The Pick and Roll shortly before Bendigo’s final game of the season, the 23-year old says she simply “wants to be in the moment”.

The WNBA chance was perhaps inevitable given Maley’s eye-catching output this season. Arguably the MVP frontrunner and the competition’s most improved player, she’s taken her game to levels few could have predicted, leading the league in scoring with 19.8 points per game.
