ACCC engaged in ticket refund discussions over Boomers USA games
It sounds like the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will be involved in ongoing discussions over ticket refund requests related to the upcoming Boomers vs Team USA games.
Update: the ACCC has confirmed that complaints on seats have been added to the investigation.
"We've now added to that investigation whether or not consumers have been misled over the seating and the quality of the seating," ACCC chair Rod Sims told reporters in Sydney on Friday.
"We take allegations of misleading behaviour very serious and the penalties for breaching the Consumer Act are significant."
Multiple NBA stars, who had been in marketing collateral used to promote the games, had subsequently pulled out, including top-tier stars like Anthony Davis and James Harden. This isn't isolated to the USA team; Canada's World Cup squad suffered from a similar wave of withdrawals, and Australia's own Ben Simmons also retracted his commitment to the FIBA 2019 World Cup.

According to 7NEWS, the ACCC is requesting that issues be escalated to them, should refund requests not be resolved.
Under the Australian Consumer Law, companies must not make false or misleading representations, including when advertising events," the statement read.
We understand that some advertising of the USA Basketball games occurring in Melbourne and Sydney next week included pictures of players who will not be attending those games.
The ACCC is considering the issues and engaging with relevant parties.
Ticketholders who wish to seek a refund should contact the promoter, TEG Live, or their ticketing agency.
If they are unable to resolve their issue with these companies, report the issues to the ACCC."
The Australian Boomers will be playing Team USA this coming week. They played Canada Basketball in Perth over the weekend, coming away with a 20-point loss on Friday, and a comeback win on Saturday.
