A whirlwind: Dillon Stith on winning FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup gold
The NBL1 star has taken a "long journey" in basketball, being named FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup MVP, the latest chapter.
In a seesawing semi-final battle hailed as the game of the tournament, Australia’s FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup campaign hung in the balance.
Enter Dillon Stith.






The tournament MVP took over in the closing moments against New Zealand, with a thunderous dunk and a tough finish through contact to ensure the Gangurrus would contest another final. New Zealand had led by as many as four points – a significant lead, given 21 points wins the game – before the frantic finish.
“The thing with the 3x3 games is getting used to that style of play; things can creep up on you, and you can find yourself in a position when time is of the essence,” Stith tells The Pick and Roll.
“We found ourselves in a bit of a battle - they were shooting the lights out. We knew we had to take away their threes and find some easy points. As a team, we've been in positions similar to that at the Champions Cup [where Australia finished third], and we found a way.”
