Training camps across the WNBA kick off in the coming days. Let's take a look at the Australians involved.
The WNBA is back.
Training camps across the league get underway on Monday (AEST) and with every team chasing the back-to-back defending champions in the Las Vegas Aces, squads have taken shape; it’s fair to say the level of competition is at an all-time high.
In amongst the thick of the action will be a number of Australians. Some return to their respective teams, while others are getting a fresh start in new cities. With only 144 WNBA roster spots available, some Aussies will have to prove their worth in training camp and preseason games (which tip off in a week!) in order to make a final roster.
It’s all on the line heading into training camp. Let’s take a look at where the Aussies stand before all the action begins.
Phoenix Mercury: Bec Allen, Amy Atwell, Jaz Shelley
Phoenix was absolutely one of the big movers over the offseason, and adding Bec Allen to the fore was one of a number of moves that should see the Mercury improve vastly, following a dreadful 9-31 season in 2023.

Allen arrives in Phoenix after a stellar season with Connecticut, alongside two other key additions in Natasha Cloud (2019 WNBA champion) and Kahleah Copper (2021 WNBA Finals MVP). The Mercury is clearly reloading, in hopes of getting back to the powerhouse team they’ve been for many years.
